When In Doubt – Flush It Out

Hydrating - Being Well This Winter

The mission of Movin’ Together is to encourage women of all ages to feel their best, be their best, look their best and do their best for others. Not to impress, but to bless! As we care for ourselves, we will have the energy we need to care for our family and friends.

This month’s healthy tool of hydration assists us in experiencing less stress! When we hydrate, the stress hormone called cortisol decreases in our bodies helping us to feel calmer. Even a little bit of dehydration can cause cortisol levels in the body to increase and lead to STRESS. Let’s make sure we drink enough water so our brains can balance their chemicals and we can be less stressed!

There are many reasons to stay hydrated such as promoting weight loss, slowing the aging process, increasing our energy, strengthening our immune system, relieving aches and pains, aiding in digestion, and building and repairing muscles. Flushing toxins out of our bodies also help us to avoid getting a cold or flu during the winter months.

Our tools for Movin’ Together aid in preventing cancer and hydration is no exception. The American Cancer Society reports that water protects the vital organs, specifically bladder, colon, and breast tissue against cancer.

Lemons, oranges, cucumbers, fresh mint, blueberries, strawberries or grated ginger add fun and flavor to our water. (Julianna and I like to add orange juice and cranberry juice together with sparkling water for a vitamin C boost in winter.)

A nice warm bath is another way to relax and hydrate anytime but especially rejuvenating in the winter. Some recipes to add to your bath are as follows:

Lemon Bath Recipe- Squeeze and drop 5-6 lemons into your running bath. If you don’t have lemons, 3/4 cup of bottled lemon juice will work just as well.

Epsom Salt Bath Recipe- Add 1/2 cup of Epsom salt to running bath water. Epsom salts can be mixed with olive oil, milk and baking soda for added benefits!

Milk Bath Recipe– Milk baths are best with powdered milk. Add two cups of powdered milk to your bath while it’s filling. Feel free to add honey, lavender or Epsom salt along with the milk for added benefits! relax.

Lavender Bath Recipe- Fill a tea bag with dried lavender or put a few drops of lavender essential oil into your running bath.

Using a simple formula for the amount of water we are encouraged to drink in a day, write down what you weigh and divide it by two. Convert that answer into ounces and drink that amount during the day starting in the morning until you retire at night!

During the winter months we even flush out the toxins in our washing machine using Clorox Bleach for our towel and underwear loads; it kills 99.99% of those bacterias and viruses.

Breaking the Fast

The Movin’ Together tools take a bite out of the incidence of cancer for those of us who use them!

Each Movin’ Together tool gives us an advantage and the Jumpstart Your Day/ Eating Breakfast tool is no exception! A typical breakfast contributes fiber and whole grains, which help prevent colorectal cancer according to the American Cancer Society.

Giving

Giving

When we give our time and talents to others, we are filled with a sense of joy. During this season of giving, we are reminded how important it is to give even 10-15 minutes of our time to hear a person’s story, share some holiday traditions, and give a bit of encouragement. Today on Movin’ Together, we experienced the joy of spending time with residents from the Shared Home, as well as some furry friends from Second Chance Animal Sanctuaries. The residents enjoyed playing with the dogs, singing Christmas carols, and sharing stories of their love of animals.
